Small Nambas in Banam Bay area have kept their customs and culture
very alive. The Guesthouse and the bungalows have been erected next
to the Small Nambas village. Custom dances are arranged and numerous
bush walks are available in the area to visit caves and waterfalls.
Hunting expeditions to shoot wild pig and fishing can be organized.
Fishing. The traditional name of the village is Fartapo.

Banam Bay bungalows offer 2 bungalows built from
local materials and a guesthouse with 4 rooms. A sanitary
block has 2 toilets and 2 showers (shared) with hot and cold water.
Catering is mainly based on traditional island meals,
made of fresh local vegetables and poultry. Limited bar list.

Tours & Activities
All tours are conducted by
a local guide speaking bislama and limited English.
- Waterfall half day tour:
Tour by foot (approx 4 hrs), enabling you to discover some of the interior
bushlands of Malakula. You reach the waterfall after approximately one and a
half hours of walking. Take your swimsuit for a cool dip at the base of the
falls. Requires good walking boots
- Small Nambas Custom Dance: Drums will beat for your arrival and you will be shown ritual
dances. After the dance, visit the village and houses and discover daily
village life while men can visit the chief's Nakamal and other tabu areas.
- Special Custom Magic tour: This is an opportunity to discover some of the magic tricks of
traditional custom. Find out how oranges can hang in thin air, how leaves can
multiply, how your basket cannot be emptied, how to cook laplap without fire,
play with sea snakes...
- Cave, hunting grounds and Old Nasara: Climb the hills and follow traditional tracks to access the
hunting grounds where villagers hunt wild pig, flying fox and birds. Visit the
Sill cave with its underwater lake inside. On your way back you will visit the
ancient Nasara (dancing grounds) (includes picnic and entry fee).
- String band: A local
string band will play for you while you eat your laplap.
- Canoe fishing half day:
Paddle out in the bay with one of the local fishermen to experience the
traditional craft of line-fishing.
- Free Canoe hire: Try paddling a traditional canoe. Our
staff will help you start.
