Santo Aore Swim 19th June

Former
Australian Olympic Swim Star, Daniel Kowalski (pictured

to Pub on the Victorian Coast last Saturday and in doing so won the Major
Prize of a trip to the 3.2 Km Vanuatu Ocean Swim on June 16th and
the 2.6Km Espiritu Santo Aore Swim on 19th June. Ladies winner was US
Lifeguard Micha Burden who also gets a trip to the 2007 Vanuatu Ocean Swim
courtesy of Air Vanuatu, Iririki Island Resort Aore Resort and Deco Stop
Lodge.
This years Lorne Pier to Pub attracted a record 4,300 swimmers with an
estimated 6,000 spectators looking on. Major Prizes of a trip to Vanuatu
to swim in the Vanuatu Ocean Swim and the Espiritu Santo Aore Swim were on
offer as part of the twinning relationship that the Vanuatu and Espiritu
Santo Aore Ocean Swims have with the Lorne and several other big
Australian and New Zealand Swims.
VTO General Manager Linda Kalpoi said that these prizes not only help
to promote the Swim events in Vanuatu but also gave huge profile to
Vanuatu generally as a tourist destination. More prizes to the Vanuatu and
Espiritu Santo Swims will be on offer at the end of this month at the Big
Swim Palm Beach to Whale Beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and at the
Cole Classic at Manly where the now famous “Mr & Ms Average Cole
Classic” Prize to Vanuatu will be awarded to the Male and Female swimmers
with the time nearest to the average time in their gender group.
Vanuatu & Espiritu Santo Aore Swim organizer, Paul McCoy says that
the Mr & Ms Average Cole Classic has become a famous and much talked
about Prize on the Ocean Swim scene, “Winners of these events are often
predictable and are often elite swimmers, so with the Cole Classic Swim we
wanted to do something different to get the prize among ordinary people
who are the ones likely to want to come to Vanuatu on holiday, so with the
organizers of the Cole Classic we came up with the “Mr & Ms Average”
Prize”, says McCoy. “We now get hundreds of people striving to be just
average so they can win the prize to the Vanuatu Ocean Swim, which this
year will include an onward trip to the Espiritu Santo Aore Swim. The
great sponsor relationships we have around the Vanuatu and Espiritu Santo
Aore Swims enable us offer these valuable prizes which help to put the
events and Vanuatu on the tourist map.”
Sponsors of the Vanuatu and Espiritu Santo Aore Ocean Swims include
Tusker, Telecom Vanuatu, Air Vanuatu, Iririki Island Resort, Chantilly’s,
Le Lagon The Melanesian, Aore Resort, Deco Stop Lodge, Frangipani Lodge,
View, Sound Centre & Downtown Duty Free, Sportscover Insurance,
