The organizing committee of the Vanuatu
Marlin Classic has announced important dates for the 2007 event. With
close to $70,000 AUD awarded in prize and Calcutta winnings, the 2006 VMC
became one of the premier fishing events in the Southern Hemisphere. The 2006
Classic saw an increase from 16 teams in 2005 to 24 teams
in 2006 with anglers coming from Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and the USA.
With commitments already coming in and more charters boats available for next
year. We intend to build upon the past success to make the 2007
VMC even bigger and better.
Calendar: A flexible fishing schedule has been developed to support
both international and local anglers. This should help individuals and
teams cope with the limitations of both air travel and their personal
schedules. Competition fishing will take place over a seven day period
from May 26th through June 1st. Each entry will be allowed to fish any
three days, of their choosing, during this period with one important
constraint; fishing days must be designated at the time of registration.
Late entries will not be afforded the luxury of choosing dates but will
instead fish dates set by the committee. A detailed schedule follows:
April 1st 2007 – Entry Due date - Entries received after 1st April will
be charged $2000 AUD and will be appointed fishing dates by the
committee. May 23rd 2007 – Observer Briefing – A second briefing will
be scheduled if necessary to accommodate international anglers and crew
that might not be able to attend the briefing of 23rd May. May 24th
2007 – Briefing, Registration. Each team must attend or have a
representative in attendance. P.O. Box 155 Port Vila, Vanuatu - Ph: +678
27485 - Fax: +678 27486 e-mail: admin@spanglers.vu or visit www.vanuatumarlinclassic.com
May 25th 2007 -- Calcutta and Sponsor night. May 26th – 1st June
2007 – Competition Fishing Days – Each team will fish 3 of the seven
available days. 1st June 2007 – Awards Dinner and Ball.
Observers: In 2007, each participating boat will be responsible for
providing a qualified observer, to be placed in the observer pool, each
morning before being allowed to compete. Although the VMC organizing
committee will endeavor to raise a pool of volunteers to assist as
observers of the event the responsibility of providing a qualified
observer rests with the participating team.
