Espiritu Santo, known locally as just Santo, is the
largest of our 83 islands in Vanuatu and is 300 kilometres, a short 50 minute
local flight north of Port Vila or direct from Brisbane and Sydney
We have the highest mountains in Vanuatu. We have more orchids, more
butterflies, more birds and more pristine rainforest than any other island in
the archipelago.
We have luxury island resorts, hotels and lodges, we have Ni-Vanuatu owned
and operated resorts on white and black sand beaches together with local tour
operators who’ll take you to amazing rainforest walks, treks, caves and
beaches.
To discover the heart of Espiritu Santo, it is worth spending time exploring
our underwater world, the people, the culture and the environment.
Santo is an eco-tourism and an adventurous island. An island for visitors
that expect the unexpected and a truly unique place to visit. It really is an
experience of a lifetime.
Scuba divers are drawn by the famous wrecks, such as the SS President
Coolidge, and the spectacular marine life. Santo is also renowned for its
political history and cargo cults, resistance movement and rebellions at the
time of independence as recently as 1980.
James Michener, the famous American author, was based in Santo during WW2 and
has immortalised his adventures in the book ‘Tales of the South Pacific’.
We don’t have traffic jams, casinos, nightclubs or huge hotels and resorts
but we do have eco-tourism, adventure, huge caves, fantastic scuba diving and
lots of coconut palms to sit under and just relax.
Together with sea kayaking, mountain bike riding, trekking, bush walking,
game and reef fishing, snorkelling, swimming, river canoeing etc. - Espiritu
