Tropical Paradise conjures up visions of sprawling out on the deck of a sailing boat, drink in hand as the wind carries you past secluded coves and swaying coconut palms. Down sails and drop anchor then don mask and snorkel, or SCUBA gear, before rolling into warm clear waters filled with vibrant tropical life. This is a cruise that really lives up to all those visions, aboard the 42 ft long, 23 ft wide sailing trimaran "Golden Wing". Operating from Havannah Harbour on the northern side of Efate Island it's about 40 minutes scenic bus ride from town. The northern side of the island is protected from Southeasterly Trade Winds so it's less likely to be raining there, even when it's wet in Vila. It also means the seas are calm and the water exceptionally clear for divers and snorkellers. During morning tea it's a sail to Hat Island or Turtle Reef. No question Hat Island has the best snorkelling on live coral gardens in the area.Kids are well catered for, with small masks and snorkelling vests. SCUBA divers are taken on a guided tour by the on board Divemaster. If the weather is right, you can explore ashore and visit the grave site of King Roymata, the legendary leader buried here with 40 others, while the Austrlaian Skipper, Peter reveals the macabre local history from 700 years ago. Divers generally come up raving about similarities to live aboard diving in the Coral Sea, except the visibility is better here. On to Castaway Beach for a tasty hot smorgasbord lunch on deck. Then you can snooze under the large sun canopy, go beachcombing, snorkelling, or perhaps wander through the jungle. The final stop is Paul's Rock, one of the most extraordinary underwater locations anywhere. Scores of big tame fish come up to "Golden Wing" as it anchors, waiting for lunch scraps from the snorkellers. For Scuba divers, there are swimthroughs lined in a carpet of soft corals, or gorgonia sea fans. There's plenty of interactive fish life and frequent turtle encounters as Paul's Rock is not fished by the local villagers because of a traditional taboo. A hot cuppa or icy cold drink awaits returning snorkellers and divers, then its a magic sail back to Havannah Harbour. Overnight Sailing Safaris are also available. "Golden Wing" has a 47 hp backup diesel engine, a large sun awning & deck cushions. It anchors directly over all reefs for easy snorkelling access. The vessel is owner operated by an Australian skipper with 21 years experience in these waters. Price:
