Vanuatu's cultural heritage up close at Port Vila and Espiritu Santo Aore Swims |

News source Pacific Swim release 11 www.pacificswims.com Over 1,500 swimmers took part in the 20th anniversary Byron Bay Winter Whales Swim last weekend. Fine weather and ideal conditions made for a great day's swimming. Young Riley Buckley was drawn as the winner of the lucky draw prize to the Vanuatu Ocean Swim but in a truly magnanimus gesture, or a bribe he couldn't refuse, he passed his prize on to fellow Byron Bay resident, Glen Lawrance. Glen will be flying to Port Vila in June on Air Vanuatu's new Boeing 737 800 to join in on a great few days of swimming. Another young swimmer, Sam Cook, was the lucky winner of the trip to the Fiji Ocean Swim in October. Not to be left behind, Sam's mum and dad, Ian and Lorraine have already booked to come too! Both boys, being locals, received rousing applause from the big crowd. Not only do the Vanuatu Ocean Swim and the Espiritu Santo Aore Swim aim to be two of the best open water swims on Earth, they also aim to showcase Vanuatu's rich cultural, musical, and artistic heritage. Over the past few years participants in the Vanuatu Ocean Swim in Port Vila and its younger sibling, the Espiritu Santo Aore Swim, have been priviledged to witness some rare cultural entertainment from all parts of Vanuatu. This year will be no exception, with swimmers and accompanying family and friends being treated to a very special cultural performance from the remote northern islands of Vanuatu as part of the programme for both events.
